New Reading Rainbow Features Diverse Authors

Steven C. Beer is a lawyer whose focus is film, music, and television. Outside of his role at Lewis Brisbois Bisgaard & Smith LLP, Steven C. Beer is an executive producer of the updated children’s program Reading Rainbow, which is now called Reading Rainbow Live.

The original Reading Rainbow began airing in 1983 on PBS to motivate children to read. Before the show ended in 2006, it received many accolades, including a Peabody, nine Parents’ Choice Awards, and 26 Emmys, nine for Outstanding Children’s Series.

The program will adhere to its original 25-minute episodes. This time around, however, the show’s creators decided to choose books that are inclusive and feature a diverse array of illustrators and authors. The settings, subjects, and main characters will represent a broad demographic of viewers.

To choose books that represent the diverse backgrounds of the show’s viewers, the creators consulted educators, librarians, parents, child literacy experts, and children. Books were chosen from an American Library Association-approved list.
